Miyagi is a plant box that tells the plant’s state through abstract microscopic readings of its cells with an associated horoscope. Our goal with the prototype is to enhance the relationship between plant and user. This is done by disrupting the user’s usual caregiving by printing one reading each day at random times.
When the user places a plant in the box and scans their thumb on the fingerprint scanner, Miyagi will define the plant type (e.g., basil/coriander/thyme), its name and date of birth. Readings of the plant’s state will be printed out for the user to analyze, save and look back at and see how it’s doing over a period of time. The user will be able to keep these readings in the included book.
